Medway Ports – the Port of Sheerness and Chatham Docks – is part of Peel Ports, the UK's second largest port group, which also includes the Port of Liverpool, the Manchester Ship Canal, the Port of Heysham and Clydeport in Scotland.
Located at the confluence of the River Medway and the Thames, Sheerness and Chatham form part of one of the UK's most important trading arteries handling a diverse range of cargoes – from fresh produce and motor vehicles to forest products and steel.
The Port of Sheerness is ideally located to provide a base for the North Sea offshore energy industry and is the selected port for the installation hub for Vestas Wind Systems, the world's leading offshore wind turbine manufacturer.
Medway Ports is also the statutory harbour, pilotage and conservancy authority for 27.3 nautical miles of the River Medway, from the Medway Buoy to Allington Lock at Maidstone, and the Swale.
